CORE Substrate Experts
Which CORE should you specify?
TerraCORE Panels offers a variety of CORE substrate materials that strengthens stone veneer
panels while maintaining the authentic natural beauty of the stone. The
CORE substrate options include:
Based on the demonstrated and specific needs within the stone cladding
industry, each CORE has a unique design purpose. In order to meet both
product capability and performance ability, a specified CORE generally
indicates whether a panel can be used for an exterior or interior application.
These lightweight stone panel veneers are so specialized and diverse,
that they open up a world of opportunities for the use of any natural stone.
About Our CORE Substrate Options
TerraCORE-HCT – Honeycomb Reinforced Stone Panel
TerraCORE-HCT is an aluminum honeycomb substrate bonded to a natural,
thin stone veneer. Sandwiched between the honeycomb and the stone is a
1mm thick, highly elastic, interwoven bi-directional fiberglass cloth
that is saturated with a high strength epoxy resin that is used to bond
these two materials together. Once cured, this is the strongest and most
rigid CORE backing that TerraCORE Panels has to offer. TerraCORE-HCT is
primarily used as an exterior application; however, it can be used as
an interior panel as well. TerraCORE-HCT has an impact strength up to
60 times stronger and weighs 80% less than 2cm stone. The honeycomb is
typically 3/4″(18mm) thick, but may vary in thickness depending
on the architectural design intent, project site limitations, and/or restrictions.
When used as an exterior panel, the aluminum backing lends both rigidity
and stability to the overall flatness of the panel, while simultaneously
acting as a radiant barrier. Competitors that use a fiberglass cloth back
skin naturally bow, making them harder to install using interlocking channels
and virtually impossible to adhere.
TerraCORE-HCI – Honeycomb Reinforced Stone Panel
TerraCORE-HCI is an aluminum honeycomb substrate bonded to a natural,
thin stone veneer. TerraCORE-HCI can only be used for interior applications.
TerraCORE-HCI has an impact strength far greater than dimensional stone
and weighs approximately 80% less than 2cm stone. The honeycomb is typically
3/8″(9mm) thick, however, it may vary in thickness depending on
the architects design intent, project site limitations and or restrictions.
The aluminum back skin lends rigidity and stability to the overall flatness
of the panel. Others that use a fiberglass cloth back skin naturally bow
making them harder to install using interlocking channels and virtually
impossible to adhere.
TerraCORE-CR – Ceramic Tile
TerraCORE-CR is a 3/8″(9mm) ceramic tile laminated to the back of
a 1/8″(3mm) natural, thin stone panel for an overall thickness of
1/2″(12mm). This backing is fantastic for all interior floor applications
and can be manufactured into any size up to a 32″ x 32″ piece.
Instead of having to deal with epoxies or sealants, TerraCORE-CR installs
perfectly level, using a water-based mud. TerraCORE-CR eliminates lippage
and does not curl like most 3/8″ stone tiles. In fact, the thicker
the stone tile, the weaker the stone actually becomes.
TerraCORE-GL – Glass
TerraCORE-GL is a hardened glass 1/4″(6mm) sheet, laminated to a
translucent stone using clear epoxies. These composite translucent onyx
or light marbled panels are great for light coves, columns, ceiling panels,
faux windows, cabinet walls, bar tops, accents, security screens, wall
sconces, and / or feature walls. TerraCORE-GL varies in thickness depending
on the size of the stone panel it’s laminated to, but generally
it is 1/2″(12mm) to 3/4″(18mm) thick.
TerraCORE-FB – Fiberglass Backed
TerraCORE-FB is a fiberglass backed 1/16″(1mm) thick, highly elastic,
interwoven bi-directional sheet bonded to a 1/4″(6mm) thick stone
panel for an overall thickness of 5/16″(8mm). It has a maximum size
of 4′- 7 1/8″ x 9′- 2 1/4″ (1400 mm x 2800 mm)
and is only about 22kg/m2. Its flexural strength tested at 10.4 mm.
