Discuss Our Lightweight Stone Panel Finish Options

Our system combines the authentic beauty of natural stones with a variety of CORE materials to create a stunning, unique, and lightweight stone panel suitable for any application. Depending on the size of the panels being specified, TerraCORE Panels can provide a sandblasted running bond pattern or offer a very sharp, detailed, tiled look by using a bridge saw. Our team is skilled in bringing artistry to stone by unlocking a stone’s natural beauty with a 75% reduction in weight as compared to full dimensional stone. What’s maybe even more important, we do this while conserving resources and preserving the quality of the environment. A detailed description of each finish is offered below.

Polished

This finish is by far the most popular and gives granites and marbles a brilliant shine that enhances the stone’s rich colors, patterns, and veining. This texture offers low porosity with a smooth finish.

Honed

Textures

This finish is fairly porous, smooth, muted, and non-reflective. Honed granite reflects a low-sheen dull look, and when combined with polished stone, offers a nice contrast of dark and light. When used on limestone, it will bring out the natural colors and variations.

Flamed / Thermal

Finishes

This rough, terrain-like finish reveals the stone’s inner crystals and is especially beautiful when wet. The finish is achieved by exposing the stone to an intense heat flame followed by immediate water cooling. When heated and cooled in this fashion, the crystals in the stone actually pop. Note: this finish is only offered on granite panels, and not all stones can be flamed. They must possess the correct crystal structure. Also the stone will be thicker, generally 3/8”, so as to accommodate this special process.

Bush Hammered

Finishes and Textures

This finish offers a rough, consistently beaten or pounded texture. This surface is very porous and is typically offered on limestone panels. Choosing this finish also requires a slightly thicker 3/8” stone.

Sandblasted

Finish and Texture

This process offers a light-sanded textured feel for granite, marble, limestone, and sandstones. The semi-rough matte surface is textured by a pressurized flow of sand that creates a very porous surface. Not all stones sandblast well. Hard and soft spots can create unattractive patterns on marble, limestone, and sandstone surfaces.

Antiqued

Finish and Textures

This uneven finish is a two-part process. First, the panel receives a semi-bush hammered finish. Then, the panel receives a brushing that sweeps away all soft areas down to the hard areas. The result is a hardened stone surface that retains a smooth soft finish. The stone’s hardness is usually created by its natural veining. This finish is most effective on granite and marble.

Acid Washed

Textures and Finishes

In order to achieve a highly distressed look and texture, this finish is produced by applying an acid bath. As a chemical treatment, it has a profound effect on softer stones such as marble, limestone, travertine, and sandstone. This effect or change is pronounced due in part to the softer porous parts of the stone being etched / washed away. While not quite as drastic a look or feel, it will interact with granite as well. It is not uncommon for a stone’s original color to significantly lighten.
